I’m in the same position!! Only… my family can’t pay for any of it, and I won’t be going until next August (if I’m lucky enough to go)..
Anyways, you aren’t going to be able to do this with just a part time job. It just isn’t possible – but don’t give up!!!
Here are some ideas (copied from one of my posts on a forum about exchanges)
* Have a monthly/bi-weekly newsletter that people can subscribe to/receive if they donate $X or more dollars (25 or 30 dollars, I’d say)
* Ask people you know to sponsor a specific day (take the total cost divided by the number of days you’ll be there) – send them a postcard on their day
* Just ask people you know to donate… for example, not only am I going to ask help from friends/family, but I’m going to be sending a letter to all of the teachers in my school district (600+!!) and ask them to donate something – even if it’s only $5.
* This was a great idea that I heard – "Santa Letters!" Make letters from Santa that parents can buy for their kids – have glitter, a joyful message, etc!
* Create a ___-a-thon (dance, walk, etc)
* Have a potluck dinner where people give donations to come
* have a movie night – use a projector to show a movie on the side of your school (or similar) – you can ONLY ask donations (it’s illegal to have people pay to see a movie without the right rights!), but you can sell concessions
* Talk to local banks – they can be surprisingly helpful!
* If you like to write (and are good at it ), talk to your local newspaper. I know the paper in my town (*might!*) sponsor me (or at least part of the cost) in exchange for some articles throughout the year!

Here’s an idea. Get a job, save your money, and pay for it yourself. Then ride for a cause. Charity rides are common. Just make sure all the money you collect goes to the charity. Will make you feel real good about yourself.
