I’ve read this on a martial arts book and I was wondering what does this "minimum force to neutralize maximum strength" mean? (I’m like you i’ve never heard of it before, OH and give me some examples).

My best guess is that it’s referring to soft style martial arts. Hard styles meet force with force; to block a strike you essentially strike their strike with enough force to stop it (picture your stereotypical karate block; sorry to the karate guys here, I’m sure that will ruffle some feathers but I’m just trying to illustrate a basic point). Soft styles use circular or water based principles to redirect a strike (think Segal’s avoidance, trapping and then redirection for a projection and or joint lock).

The idea in soft styles is to use very little energy to counter whatever your opponent is throwing at you. Both soft and hard styles are excellent when taught properly and most martial arts have some degree of both principles included in the curriculum though sometimes only at more advanced ranks.

Create a document listing both of your full names and legal addresses. Include the amount of the loan, and the terms of repayment. (EG: One lump sum? Multiple payments? What date(s) is payment due?)

I would have the document signed by both of you in front of a notary public. They are available at most banks for free or a very small fee. Make sure the document is also dated.

Please know, that if you are loaning money to someone who is not in a good financial situation, there is a possibility you will never see the money back. If he doesn’t pay, your recourse is to sue him in small claims court. They can enter a judgement against him, but if he has no money – they can’t take something from him that he doesn’t have. Lending caries risk, and I wouldn’t advise it unless you can afford the possibility of losing the money for an extended period of time, if not indefinitely.

An Example:

I, John Smith, residing at 123 Main St, New York, NY, do hereby agree to lend the sum of $4,000 to Bob Barker, residing at 456 Division St, New York, NY. Bob Barker does hereby agree to repay the full sum of $4,000, plus interest in the amount of $400, not later than December 27, 2010. Failure to repay the borrowed sum by the date indicated will result in a penalty of 1% of the outstanding balance, added monthly.
