  • In the sun, it takes several hundred thousand years for a photon released in the core to reach the surface.?

    Posted by admin on January 18th, 2010 and filed under hundred thousand | 3 Comments »

    What would be the contradiction in the above statement?

    There is no contradiction unless you object to the term "surface" which has many definitions. One other technicality is that when a single photon gets absorbed by an atom and re-emitted, it really isn’t the same photon and the atom may not even have released the same energy.

    ~~~~~~~~
    The sun is not a solid even in the center. It’s center is an extremely dense gaseous plasma. The atoms are so closely packed that the high-energy photons (gamma rays) released in fusion reactions are absorbed in only a few millimeters by another atom and then re-emitted again in a RANDOM direction (and at slightly lower energy).
    The energy travels as photons from atom to atom, being absorbed and then re-emitted and so it takes a long time for radiation to reach the Sun’s surface.
    Estimates of the average "photon travel time" range between 10,000 and 170,000 years.
    After a final trip through the convective outer layer to the transparent "surface" of the photosphere, the photons escape as visible light.
    Each gamma ray in the Sun’s core is converted into several million visible light photons before escaping into space.
    If ovaries contained about a million eggs at birth, why did that number go down a few hundred thousand?
    If ovaries contained about a million eggs at birth, why did that number go down a few hundred thousand by the time we were born?
    Your question doesn’t make sense. Whatever amount of eggs the ovaries hold "at birth" is the same as when a female is "born".
    What could I buy with hundred thousand dollars?
    I live in Georgia if that changes anything.
    A mini-home, a nice car or a bunch of less expensive cars.
    You could invest it for your future in RRSPs or stocks.
    A crapload of clothes, makeup, accessories.
    You could sponser a child or donate it to a charity.
    You could buy an animal or go on a nice trip around the world for a year.
    What is a thousand year or hundred year old egg?
    Cuz it can’t really be a thousand or hundred years old. I’m just wondering why it’s called that. Thanks
    Century egg, also known as preserved egg, hundred-year egg, thousand-year egg, and thousand-year-old egg, is a Chinese cuisine ingredient made by preserving duck, chicken or quail eggs in a mixture of clay, ash, salt, lime, and rice straw for several weeks to several months, depending on the method of processing. After the process is completed, the yolk becomes a dark green, cream-like substance with a strong odor of sulphur and ammonia, while the white becomes a dark brown, transparent jelly with little flavor or taste. The transforming agent in the century egg is its alkaline material, which gradually raises the pH of the egg from around 9 to 12 or more.[1] This chemical process breaks down some of the complex, flavorless proteins and fats, which produces a variety of smaller flavourful compounds.
    Some eggs have patterns near the surface of the egg white that are likened to pine branches.
    When people sue for a hundred thousand or a million dollars, now do the victims pay for it?
    It has stumped me for a while.
    Stumped because the victims are the people suing and would pay a % to the lawyers.
    I want to make colored snow… what is the best dye to use for several hundred/thousand gallons of water?
    Posted by admin on October 6th, 2009 and filed under hundred thousand | 1 Comment »
    The dye needs to be non toxic. I work at a local ski hill and I will be using snowmachines.
    I don’t know if food coloring would work because i would need to buy hundreds of bottles, unless you guys know of some industrial strength stuff.
    well food coloring is fairly dense and would cover quite a bit not sure of the thousands of gallons though. Perhaps just a larger bottle would do. maybe these could help
    With ability to raise at least two hundred thousand dollars,what business can i start to multiply my wealth?
    Posted by admin on October 4th, 2009 and filed under hundred thousand | 5 Comments »
    I read and hear that business and investment success is not so much dependant on the amount of start up capital anylonger,but the viability of the business or investment idea.So guys out there,send me what business you advise i should do to start building my wealth.Better if you advise something you did yourself or know somebody who did because at 40 with a business degree i dont want to risk my core money in blind experiments.Much better if you can use some figures and time frames to demonstrate the likely viability of your ideas..
    You did not mention what country you are in. I assume the USA.
    I Invest in real estate in the USA. I make 5-50% per year. Any investment has risks. If you want relatively risk free, I know of an investment that will get you about 5% immediate, plus 11% guaranteed for 8 years.
    Is it worth getting a degree in media arts and animation at the Art Institute for a hundred thousand dollars?
    Would my carreer be rewarding enough in the long run?
    Is it worth spending all that money?
    What are better schools in southern california or elsewhere that could possibly be a better choice?
    California State University, Fullerton in much less expensive and they are a great school.
    One of their grads went on to do animation for the movie Horton Hears a Who. I can’t remember what studio it was, but he worked for them.
    CSUF is about $5,000 per year including books.
