Is LED backlighting any good?
The Samsung UN55B8000 has LED backlighting which is the latest way for LCD TVs to receive the light they need to display the picture properly. That unit has the LEDs on the edge of the screen which is not that good because people complain the edges then glow, or they project light down like little spotlights from the corner, but you can get TVs with LEDs all across the back instead, and they are very well received. The biggest benefit of this kind of backlighting is that the TV can then be much thinner than the standard units, just 2 inches thick in places, which is a big step up from my LCD TV!
