How can I earn a couple thousand dollars through investments?

I am currently setting a goal which will hopefully get me to my ultimate destination of England. I need money to pay for immigrating to the UK. The rough estimate is about 10,000 dollars. If I say that I want to reach this goal in about 5-8 years, is there a way to get a good portion of that through investments?
