For the next year or two… put it in a FDIC insured Certificate of Deposit.
If you want to play a little… put 10K into a CD and invest the remaining 4K in stocks…. Pick any of the big company stocks available for under $10 and see what happens in a year or two.

Just put about $14,000 9in a short term cd (6 to 9 months) and put the rest in a saving account and just add to it every month or whenever you get paid. Don’t be concerned about low interest rates on the cd’s or savings. Just get into the habit of putting money away. My wife and I have been doing it for 36 years. pay down all your debt first, then open a savings account, then buy some no load mutual funds and hold for the long term
